The facility is run by highly skilled experimentalists together with dedicated technical staff and a project manager. The KPF staff conduct advanced methodological and applied research, collect and analyse data for a wide range of collaborations, train facility users and ensure that the equipment is well maintained and fully operational.

Our research focusses on technical and analytical advances in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and gene expression. Internal research includes phosphopeptide detection, label-free quantification, 15N-based protein turnover, dimethyl labelling and proteogenomics on Ostreococcus tauri. Projects include circadian phospho-proteomics and proteomic profiling of nutrient deprivation among others.

Our outreach activities range from work experience and internships to summer academies, school visits and science festival events. Our robotic music collaboration Labnotes is available online, as is the I'm a Scientist - get me out of here competition, which we won in 2012.
